Routine Depth Public opening:

Thursday 7th March 2019 Exhibition times: 07/03/2019 – 12/03/2019

Investigating various systems of depth perception through collage, print and installation, two London based artists explore their visual language in response to cultural spatial communication.

“The world is presented in a Kaleidoscope flux of impressions which has to be organized by our minds and this means largely the linguistic systems in our minds. We cut nature up organize it into concepts, and ascribe significances as we do, largely because we are parties to an argument to organize it in this way – an agreement that holds throughout our speech community and is codified in the patterns of our language.” -Benjamin Lee Whorf

Discovering new kinds of spatial experiences through different degrees of abstraction Routine Depth strives to shed light (or shadows) on each individual’s way of seeing their environment.

Jeanine Saurette is a Canadian artist currently living and working in London. Saurette’s practice investigates cultural relationships to space and time with abstract line work through drawing, painting, collage and installation. Traffic signs and personal images of visual landmarks within cityscapes are most recently used in her work to address spatial memory and navigational sense.

Ivy Mei is a London based artist who explores the relationship between colour, shape and space to create obscured landscapes of the imagination.

Ivy Mei and Jeanine Saurette have created abstract paintings and collage works on paper, investigating repetitive movements in spatial cognition.
