‘Cabinets of Curiosity’ within a Contemporary Context

Featured wall designed by Zaha Hadid Design

Suddenly Last Summer 2018 is a curated selection of work from AUB’s 2018 graduating cohort. Showcasing over 60 artists, designers and makers, this is the biggest annual exhibition that TheGallery stages each year. This summer we celebrate the achievements of just over 1,300 students who will embark on their professional careers and further studies.

Committed to the disciplines of art, design, media and performance, the artists have come together in one show to embrace the creative spirit that characterises life at the Arts University Bournemouth. The exhibition focuses on creating collections within one major exhibition that has been modelled on and considered within the museumology approach that contextualises the theory and practice of each course.

Curating the exhibition using a new museumology approach to a contemporary context, we have used the theoretical and criticalness of the concepts around curating itself. Our aim is use the historical content of how art was generated in the display sense within the original museum space and ideology and apply these to a contemporary context. Within the cultural authority of the white space, the collections look at subject matter

As part of the exhibition, our feature wall, built by Ink Associates, Dorset and designed by Zaha Hadid Architects for their exhibition in TheGallery earlier in 2018, was built to display a series of architectural models and framed photographic prints. This wall was a centre piece within the exhibition and the gallery space and has continued to be used for the AUB Summer Shows and now will be featured within the Suddenly Last Summer 2018 exhibition.
