'The Other Man'
Rebecca Foster's exciting new solo show couldn't be more relevant and reflective of what it is to be a man in 2017. The London based artist's work explores and excavates the meaning of modern masculinity and challenges the archetype of what it means to be a man. Her paintings are a sensitive portrayal of a wide spectrum of contemporary men. Her images capture men's sense of strength in vulnerability and confidence in passivity.

Rebecca's work is widely acclaimed and much sought after; she paints beautifully. But more than that she aims to start a discussion about the ever changing and challenged male identity while exploring how stereotypes of masculinity can be as emotionally damaging as the negative tropes place onto women.
'hero'
'rescuer'
'aggressor'
'protector'
'strong'
'sexual predator'
These descriptors are still current and are held up by the media as ideas to define maleness. By representing the 'other', a less clichéd and more intimate observation of the male human experience, Rebecca's portraits examine how we perceive masculine identity in the 21st century and encourages the viewer to question their personal notions of what it is to be a man.
