Cock 'n' Bull Gallery in partnership with Sharon Newton are proud to present Let's Celebrate 365 an exhibition of work by Jeremy Hunter spanning 35 years of reportage photography, documenting some of the world's greatest and most ancient cultures and their celebrations. Whether secular, sacred or spiritual one such rite is taking place somewhere in the world on any given day, explaining the exhibition's title.

Hunter's photographs are executed with a cinematic appreciation of form, colour and framing shaped by his early career making television commercials working alongside such influential luminaries as Ken Russell, Tony Scott, John Schlesinger, Nick Roeg and Jim Clark. For Let's Celebrate 365 Newton has worked with Hunter to select images that present a tour of festivals, celebrations and rituals from around the world including India, Bangladesh, Britain, China, Thailand, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Nagaland, Burma, Peru, Sardinia, Papua New Guinea, North Korea and Tibet.

Throughout his career Hunter has unflinchingly chronicled the plain shocking, and the result is a vast and extraordinary anthropological study which includes the whipping of young women at the Ukuli Bula ceremony in Ethiopia and the rarely witnessed hair-pulling of nuns at the Deeksha ceremony in Southern India.

Let's Celebrate 365 takes in the ceremonies of such politically imperiled traditions as the Tunisian Berber horsemen's Hollywood-esque displays; and of such fragile communities as the tribes of the Omo Valley, Ethiopia: an ancient people whose peaceful, pastoral life is seriously threatened by government plans to dam the valley. Hunter's highlighting of their plight earned him a prestigious UNESCO-HPA (Humanity Photo Award) and he has just returned from another journey to the same area.
