130 artists from across the world give personal artistic responses to globalisation to create a unique ‘networked exhibition’ in which all contributions are made by email.
Artist Brigit Jensen asks her diverse international network of visual artists to respond to the latest developments in a globalised world. What position do they take and how do the changes and attendant social tensions and conflicts influence their work? How do they position themselves in relation to the transformations of our society in recent years, and their various local impacts?
A vast spectrum of answers is brought together in the exhibition; each expression of the 130 artists reflects another aspect of our time, whether philosophical, social, political, economical or ecological. Every answer relates to a different point of view. It shows that artistic thinking is rooted in specific social experience.
The participating artists come from 33 different countries and from all continents. Flyers includes contributions from Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Netherlands, England, Ireland, Croatia, Hungary, Kosovo, Poland, Turkey, Italy, Cyprus, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Russia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Togo, Senegal, Argentina, Chile, Iran, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, Canada and the USA.
Each artist put forward one image and an accompanying text by email. A complete gamut of contemporary art media and forms is represented – painting, sculpture, photography, conceptual work, video stills, installation work, drawing and comic art.
The exhibition Flugblätter was originally presented in Künstler Gut Loitz e.V. in Loitz an der Peene in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany in August 2017 (in collaboration with Barbara Camilla Tucholski) and then in the exhibition space of Pictura in Dordrecht, Netherlands in March 2018 (in collaboration with Teresiña Talarico and within a wall-painting concept of Sigmund de Jong). In September 2018 it is shown in Maebashi, Japan (in collaboration with Kenzo Onoda and art & culture, Maebashi).
Birgit Jensen is a Düsseldorf-based artist.
