What of memory?
How does it engage with a journey?
What of the moment now?
How does a painting grow now?

100 Paintings [GR11] is an installation of paintings that is a parallel journey to that of a 45 day walk across the Spanish Pyrenees.

100 can be seen as a scientific number, to survey a question, one not being enough to prove a point. Darren O'Brien's paintings are not scientific but the quantity does survey the question of making paintings and the enduring nature of a memory of a journey.

Like a beating drum the works wrap around a long central construction made of weathered ply that could be navigated in a circular fashion the beginning and end being interchangeable. With a free flowing access to both the spontaneous and the journey the paintings often on paper, on canvas form constellations that collectively weave their own path.

Darren O'Brien is both an artist and curator who has exhibited internationally in New York, Japan and the UK. He was involved in the early running of the Conductors Hallway Gallery as well as cofounding and running the influential Hat on Wall Bar and Gallery in Clerkenwell. Both showcased a rich array of artists that often went on to become established figures. Recently the curator at the ASC Gallery he continues an adventurous philosophy only this time with his own epic project.
