Internationally regarded for their work, Cassils makes their own body the material and protagonist of their work. Working in live performance, sculpture, photography, sound design and film, Cassils contemplates the history(s) of LGBTQI+ violence, representation, struggle and power.

Curated by Bren O’Callaghan, Cassils’ Human Measure is a 10-year survey at a critical moment for transgender advocacy. The works, which take the form of an exhibition and accompanying one day performance, will grapple with the question:  “What does it mean to engage in the politics of representation in a moment of heightened violence?”.

The performance is Cassils' first commission for stage, a collaboration with renowned choreographer Jasmine Albuquerque, and is inspired by Yves Klein's Anthropometries paintings to demonstrate movements grounded in oppression and resilience, an artist whose physical practice deeply inspires their work.
