Krina Amin

Portraiture as an art form has traditionally focused on a particular aesthetic – for me this is the aesthetic of the unconventional, the interesting – producing intimate portraits exposing the sitter’s vulnerability to capture the ‘unseen angle’.

This experience is what makes portraiture such a fundamental prism through which I understand the world. Shape and movement through flesh is how I connect with the world around me, the humanity of others and my own humanity.

Having had no formal training, Auerbach, Freud, Saville, Giacometti influence the way I see art, the figure, the world.

Through my art, I am aiming to invite my viewer into dialogue with the piece, inviting their own interpretation in to complete the image with their minds eye.

Over time I have found aspects of my work on the human form itself to become more highly textured, tactile, layered and substantial. Understanding suggestion as a powerful tool – what it says about myself and others is a journey I’m currently exploring.

Krina has lived and worked in Germany, Japan and Vietnam.
